Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a holistic and natural branch of the healing arts that focuses on the nervous system and musculoskeletal system. Doctors of chiropractic primarily focus on the detection, alleviation and correction of spinal misalignments with nervous system dysfunction; it’s the science of locating impaired spinal structures, the art of reducing their irritation to the nervous system, and the philosophy of all things natural.

How Does Chiropractic Work?

Chiropractic works because you are self-healing organism and the body is regulated by the nervous system. There are pairs of spinal nerves relaying messages through the body that branch off each spinal joint. Whenever the bones of the spine don’t have proper motion or alignment this can lead to irritation or compromised nerve function. The adjustment is the chiropractic tool used to treat spinal segments in order to restore proper motion, reduce pain, and alleviate dysfunction in the nervous system.

Can a Person who has Undergone Back Surgery See a Chiropractor?

Yes.  A thorough consultation and clinical examination will elicit the best treatment approach. Chiropractic may help in order to prevent repeated surgeries in the cases of failed back surgeries. The regions of the spine below and above the area of the initial surgery often undergo spinal arthritis at a faster rate and therefore can be helped with chiropractic care to prevent this as much as possible.

Absolutely! We often received referrals for OBGYN's and midwives for pregnant patients to have supportive chiropractic care during their journey. The American Pregnancy Association states that there are no known contraindications to chiropractic care during pregnancy. Benefits include reduction in discomfort; chiropractic care is a natural way to help back, sacroiliac, rib, and neck pain. It also promotes the proper alignment of the pelvis and spine to help reduce labor time and allow room for the baby, therefore lowering the risk of intrauterine constrant.

Can a Chiropractor Help My Child?

The short answer is yes! More and more, parents are seeking chiropractic care for their children for a holisitic approach to health and well-being. Chiropractors helps children for a variety of conditions including recurrent ear infections, trouble with sleeping patterns, digestive concerns, bedwetting, developmental delays and supportive immune system health. The body is a self healing organism, and this is most evident as a child is growing and developing.

Adjustments for kids are very different compared to an adult adjustment. Gentle techniques are utilized and very light pressure is administered. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to children's health and research; they have numerous publications here. Dr. Monique is a member of this organization because she treats a large pediatric population.
